On behalf of Holland Shipyards Group, EMHA carried out noise and vibration measurements on a newly built cement tanker. The measurements were performed during a sea trial on the North Sea. All vibration and noise levels were within the required standards, meaning the vessel is ready for classification and delivery.
Situation
Holland Shipyards Group required objective validation of the noise and vibration levels on board a newly built cement tanker. During the official sea trial, it had to be demonstrated that the vessel meets the applicable international standards for crew comfort and safety, in support of delivery and classification.
Our contribution
Our colleagues went on board last summer during the sea trial on the North Sea and carried out extensive noise and vibration measurements. The measurements took place at:
- 80% MCR for noise
- 100% MCR for vibrations
Measurements were taken in all relevant technical spaces and accommodations. The measurement data was analysed using calibrated and certified equipment, after which a detailed report was compiled.
Results
The measurements show that:
- All noise levels are well within the applicable standards.
- The measured vibration levels in the accommodations are low (RMS < 1 mm/s) and can be considered comfortable.
The conclusion is that this tanker meets the international requirements for noise and vibration and provides a comfortable and safe working environment for the crew.
