EMHA undertook the application of a high-quality propeller shaft coating for a supplier of propeller shafts. This specialised treatment protects the shafts from corrosion caused by seawater. The result is a sustainable solution that significantly extends the service life of this critical component.
Situation
Parts of propeller shafts are constantly exposed to the corrosive properties of seawater. Without adequate protection, these factors can lead to accelerated wear and increased maintenance costs. The customer’s brief was to provide effective protection for the shafts prior to installation, so as to ensure performance and service life under all circumstances.
Approach
EMHA carried out the work in an air-conditioned environment within the engineering workshop, where the shafts were mounted in a lathe. Our specialists applied a combination of epoxy shaft coating and fibreglass tape, which was carefully layered to create a strong and wear-resistant protective layer. The controlled application and precise workmanship resulted in a homogeneous coating system that adheres optimally and withstands corrosive conditions.
Result
The treated shafts are optimally protected against corrosion by a durable coating. This significantly extends the service life of the propeller shaft. As a result, the customer benefits from a longer service life, reduced maintenance requirements and more reliable operation of the propeller shafts in demanding maritime environments.
