Meet the Team – Simon Redering
Simon has been part of the EMHA story since his teenage years. What started as a summer job has grown into a career centered around technology, hands-on experience, and teamwork. Today, he serves as Technical Manager within the Industry department.
“My EMHA journey started when I was 17, riding my Puch moped. I travelled from Vlaardingen to Bolnes to do summer work in the Marine department.”
His very first assignment was a memorable one: assisting with the grouting of ship engines aboard the trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Maxima. From there, he gained experience across almost every department within EMHA.
“From Marine and On-site Machining to Piping and Industry. I’ve had the opportunity to work in many different areas, both in the Netherlands and abroad.”
After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Simon officially joined EMHA in 2013 as a Construction Engineer and Assistant Project Manager. In that role, he spent much of his time on-site, focusing on project preparation, planning, coordination, and engineering.
“That period really laid the foundation for how I approach my work today.”
Over the years, Simon progressed into the role of Technical Manager, but he has never lost touch with the practical side of the business.
“What I enjoy most is the combination of office work and being out in the field. Of course, I spend a lot of time in the office, but I also regularly visit project sites to stay involved and see firsthand what we’re working towards.”
His responsibilities are diverse, ranging from customer visits and technical challenges to supporting service engineers and preparing projects. The projects themselves take him to a wide variety of locations.
“One day you’re at a compressor installation in the Botlek area, the next day you’re standing at a pumping station in Kinderdijk. That variety is what makes the job so enjoyable.”
What makes working at EMHA enjoyable?
For Simon, it’s all about variety and seeing tangible results.
No two days are the same, and every project requires a different approach. However, what stands out most to him is the successful completion of complex projects.
“After months of preparation and intensive collaboration, there’s nothing better than seeing an installation running smoothly again and having a satisfied customer.”
That sense of accomplishing something together is what motivates him.
“You look back with pride on what you’ve achieved and go home feeling satisfied.”
What gives him energy?
Successful projects and satisfied customers.
His personal goal is clear:
“To make sure every customer can rely on an installation that operates reliably and requires as little attention as possible.”
His job in three words
Varied – Technical – Hands-on
The strength of Simon’s role lies in the combination of knowledge and experience.
Thanks to his practical background, he understands exactly what is happening on-site and can guide projects effectively from start to finish.
If he could choose one superpower for work, what would it be?
Teleportation.
“That way I could visit a customer in the Botlek in the morning, support a project in Germany in the afternoon, and still finish my work at the end of the day. It would make my schedule a lot easier!”
And what song is guaranteed to get him moving?
Although Simon is a true music enthusiast, one thing is certain: dancing is not his strongest skill.
“My Spotify playlist contains a bit of everything, but you won’t find me on the dance floor very often. Give me a beer and a good conversation instead.”
What does he enjoy outside of work?
Simon enjoys staying active in his free time. Together with his girlfriend, he loves travelling and regularly heads out on adventures, whether in a classic car or by boat. At home, he also likes to stay busy.
“There’s always something that needs fixing or improving. That’s just who I am.”
