In preparation for the 2020 heavy lift season, EMHA successfully completed calibration of all “horseshoes” on board Allseas “Pioneering Spirit”, the world’s largest construction vessel.
Developed and fabricated by Allseas, horseshoes are a lifting tool used for the single-lift removal of offshore platform topsides. Shaped like horseshoes, the tools engage with brackets pre-installed at specific points on the upper platform legs. During the calibration process, the necessary vertical load was applied by means of lifting the partial weight of Allseas’ cargo barge "Iron Lady". It took two specifically designed additional reference Load Monitoring systems to give the input of the reference load in horizontal and vertical direction, plus EMHA installed strain gauge networks on the outer surface of the connecting pipe.
