Meet the Team – Daan de Vreede
Daan has been working at EMHA for almost six years. His journey actually started with a small detour. After completing his education, he first worked at a machine factory and later joined DMG (formerly Van Leeuwen), where he was introduced to the company through a former colleague. Since EMHA acquired DMG in July 2022, he has been part of DMG, part of EMHA.
“I came from a machine factory where I basically worked between the same four walls every day. So my first job on-site a DMG took some getting used to, but it was mainly a great new experience.”
Today, Daan works as an On-Site Machining Technician within the Service department. His work focuses on machining and repairing large machines and rotating equipment on-site at customer locations around the world.
“We make sure that components are perfectly flat or fit precisely again. We do this using specialised machines that we take with us wherever we go. The best part is that you are always working at a different location and on different types of equipment.”
His work regularly takes him to unique locations, from industrial facilities across Europe to projects on the other side of the world.
“I have been to Curaçao, Mexico, Indonesia, France, Germany, Belgium and Poland, among other places. The travelling is a big part of what makes the job enjoyable for me.”
What makes working at EMHA enjoyable?
For Daan, the main appeal lies in the variety and freedom his work offers.
“No project is the same. Sometimes you work on a large job for a few weeks with an entire team, and sometimes you head out on your own. That variety keeps things interesting.”
It is especially the larger projects that tend to stay with him.
“I often enjoy the projects where you spend several weeks working with multiple machines and a larger team. You are really working towards a common goal and get to see the results together.”
Which project has stayed with him the most?
Although he has worked at some remarkable locations around the world, the most memorable project does not necessarily have to be far from home.
“One of the best projects was for an international company in the maritime and offshore industry. We had to machine several large grippers on enormous cranes at the same time. We worked with many machines and a large group of colleagues on a single project. I really enjoy those kinds of major challenges.”
A project in Mexico also stands out for him.
“We had to carry out work on a Ferris wheel there. It was quite something to be working on a project like that on the other side of the world.”
What gives him energy?
For Daan, it is mainly the combination of technology, teamwork and new experiences that keeps him motivated.
“I get a lot of energy from the larger projects that you work on for a longer period of time. Creating something great together gives you a real sense of satisfaction.”
Travelling also remains an important part of his work.
“You get to visit places you would probably never go to otherwise. That is what makes the job special.”
His work in three words?
Varied – Challenging – International
If he could choose one superpower for work, what would it be?
Daan does not have to think long about that one.
“I would choose the ability to lift anything, so I could simply move machines myself. That would save a lot of time.”
A practical superpower for someone who works with large equipment every day.
And which song is guaranteed to get him moving?
Choosing one specific song is difficult for Daan.
“I actually listen to all kinds of music. From old-school music from the eighties and nineties to Dutch-language music and hardcore. It really depends on my mood.”
Whether it is relaxing music during a long drive or something more energetic to stay awake on the way to a project location, Daan does not have one fixed favourite.
