For Alpla, EMHA realised a custom solution for safe access to roof coolers at the production site in Mijdrecht. By combining engineering, production and installation, a certified and future-proof structure was installed. The result is a safe working environment without impact on the production process.
Situation
The family-owned company Alpla, a globally operating producer of plastic packaging, sets high standards for quality and safety. On the roof of the production hall in Mijdrecht are two large coolers that regulate the cooling of the compressors. Due to the frequent maintenance of the installation, there was a need for a structural, safe solution for accessing these coolers. The chosen approach not only had to comply with the strict NEN 1090 standard for load-bearing structures, but also had to take into account the load-bearing capacity of the roof.
Approach
EMHA deployed various areas of expertise for this project. The engineering department carried out a detailed 3D scan, accurately capturing the situation in a point cloud. EMHA’s structural experts calculated the optimal positioning of the platform, taking into account roof load, wind load and the required anchoring according to applicable standards. 3D draughtsmen designed a custom solution that fits exactly onto the existing structure. The platforms were then manufactured in-house exactly according to specifications. The standard inspection was passed with flying colours. The literal and figurative highlight was the placement and delivery: smooth and without disruption to the production processes. Collaboration with Alpla’s technically responsible contact ran smoothly, allowing the platforms to be put into use immediately after installation.
Result
Thanks to the platforms from EMHA, Alpla now has safe and certified access to its roof coolers. The platforms are equipped with anti-slip flooring, railings and a staircase, enabling technicians to carry out maintenance safely and efficiently. All the steel is, thanks to full hot-dip galvanisation, durably resistant to outdoor exposure. The design also offers flexibility for future adaptations.
