Meet the Team – Robert Boelens
Since joining EMHA, Robert has been working as a Service Technician. In this role, he handles welding, fabrication, and the assembly and installation of systems, both in the workshop and on-site at customer locations.
“It’s a little bit of everything. You build something from scratch, and eventually you get to see it actually up and running at the customer’s site.”
His work is very varied. An important part of his job is obtaining the right certifications. Depending on a project’s requirements, he takes additional training courses so he can work on specific systems.
“If a job has certain requirements and we don’t yet meet them, we get certified for that. Only then can we actually get to work.”
Robert came into contact with EMHA through a recruiter. He was approached via LinkedIn and immediately saw a number of advantages.
“The location was closer than my previous employer’s, and I come from the maritime sector myself. That appealed to me right away. After an interview and a tour of the workshop, I had a good feeling about it and made the switch.”
What makes working at EMHA so enjoyable?
For Robert, the joy lies mainly in the variety and the freedom he enjoys in his work.
“You’re not alone in the workshop. You build something and then go out to set it up and install it. You’re part of the entire process, from production to the final result.”
He also appreciates the freedom to work independently.
“As long as the end result meets expectations, there are often multiple ways to make something. That freedom is nice. Sometimes you want a little more guidance, but if you know what you’re doing, it’s nice to be able to decide for yourself how to get there.”
What energizes him?
For Robert, continuity, collaboration, and independence are important factors.
“It helps when there’s enough work and you know what you’re working toward. That brings peace of mind and creates a good atmosphere within the team.”
One project that has particularly stuck with him is a large installation for milk powder industry. There, an entire compressor room was renovated.
“We removed the old equipment and installed new compressors, piping, and cooling systems. It was a challenging project because everything had to be maneuvered through existing doorways and spaces. On paper, it seemed almost impossible, but in the end, we pulled it off.”
As part of that project, Robert was involved in both the prefabrication work and the on-site installation.
“That’s actually exactly what makes the work so enjoyable. You’re involved from start to finish.”
His work in three words?
Freedom – Variety – Continuity
A combination that ensures no two workweeks are ever the same.
If he could choose one superpower to use at work, what would it be?
Robert doesn’t have to think long about that.
“X-ray vision.”
In his line of work, welds are regularly checked with X-ray inspections to assess their quality.
“How convenient would it be if you could see for yourself right away whether a weld is perfect? Then you’d know immediately if everything is in order.”
Still, he mentions a second option with a laugh.
“The ability to bend steel with your mind wouldn’t be bad either.”
And what song is guaranteed to get him moving?
Music doesn’t necessarily play a major role in his personality, but one thing is certain: his playlists are quite varied.
“I listen to all kinds of music. Often a lot of rock and metal, but that changes all the time. It depends entirely on what I’m in the mood for at the moment.”
Variety, then. Just like in his work.
