Meet the Team – Mirsad Barucic

Mirsad Barucic has been part of the EMHA team since 1 January 2018. As of this month, he has taken on a new role: Business Unit Manager Engineering. In this role, he oversees various specialist disciplines, such as Structural & Mechanical, Load Monitoring, Diagnostics and Noise & Vibration Consultancy.

“I like to get involved in lots of things at once, mainly to ensure everything is well organised and coordinated internally.”

His responsibilities are wide-ranging: from business development and project preparation to coordinating and ensuring that engineering activities are carried out correctly. This is important, as the days of smaller, individual assignments are now behind them.

“In the past, we mostly worked within a specific discipline and dealt mainly with clearly defined issues and assignments. We would carry out a standalone measurement, an alignment or a single calculation. Now, as an integrated department, we take on complete projects, which we manage entirely as EMHA. This enables us to take the pressure completely off the client, and that is where we at EMHA really make a difference.”

That is why Mirsad is often the link between the various technical specialists. He oversees the content, gathers input from colleagues and ensures there is a single, clear line of communication with the client.

What makes working at EMHA enjoyable?

For Mirsad, the answer is simple: challenge and variety.

“No two projects, measurements, calculations or consultancy assignments are the same. One day you’re on board a yacht worth a few hundred million, the next day on a fishing boat, and then back at a chemical plant, a crane or a massive gas turbine or compressor installation.”

That variety keeps him on his toes. But just as important: the complexity.

Sometimes the work is straightforward, and sometimes they spend a week troubleshooting and investigating.

“Often, the client doesn’t know exactly what the problem is or where it lies. For us, it starts with first identifying the exact problem. That’s often a challenge in itself!”

What gives him energy?

Mirsad draws his energy mainly from challenges and progress. “When something works out, that gives me energy. Whether that’s at work or at home.” Collaboration also plays a major role. “There’s an incredible amount of knowledge and expertise here. By pooling that and working well together, we really make progress.”

His work in three words?

Challenging – Varied – Unpredictable

And that last one is mainly down to growth. EMHA can do more and more, wants more and more, and that brings new questions and developments with it. As an organisation, you have to respond to this, because only then can you keep moving forward!

If he could choose one superpower for work, what would it be?

Without a doubt: time travel.

“Going back in time with what we know now, to do things just a bit better and raise the bar a little higher. You learn even more from that and can do it even better next time!”

And which song is guaranteed to get him moving?

Although it’s not exactly his taste in music, there’s one song he simply can’t stand still to:
Snollebollekes – Links Rechts.

“If you’re standing somewhere and that song comes on… well, you just can’t help but join in.”
