Situation
Alpla, a family-owned business and globally recognised manufacturer of plastic packaging, prioritises both quality and safety. Positioned atop the production hall in Mijdrecht are two substantial coolers tasked with regulating compressor cooling. Owing to the frequency of maintenance required, a permanent and secure access solution was necessary. The selected approach needed to meet the rigorous NEN 1090 standard for load-bearing structures, as well as accommodate the roof’s load-bearing capacity.
Approach
EMHA utilised its multidisciplinary expertise for this project. The engineering team conducted an advanced 3D scan, meticulously documenting the site as a point cloud. Structural specialists at EMHA determined the optimal placement for the platform, factoring in roof load, wind resistance, and anchoring requirements according to applicable standards. 3D designers created a customised solution tailored precisely to the existing structure. The platforms were subsequently manufactured in-house to exact specifications. Standards inspection was successfully completed. The installation and delivery phase proceeded smoothly, ensuring uninterrupted production operations. Collaboration with Alpla’s technical manager was efficient, enabling immediate usage of the platforms upon assembly.
Result
With the implementation of EMHA’s platforms, Alpla now benefits from safe and certified access to its rooftop coolers. The platforms feature anti-slip flooring, handrails, and a staircase, facilitating secure and efficient maintenance by technicians. All steel components are fully galvanised, offering superior resistance to outdoor conditions. In addition, the design accommodates future modifications, providing flexibility as operational needs evolve.
